What should you know about the Tricor therapeutic effects?

Tricor is a lipid-lowering medication, belongs to a group of cholesterol preparations called fibrates. Tricor lowers the level of triglycerides and (to a lesser extent) cholesterol in the blood. The mechanism of action is not known. Disrupts the synthesis of cholesterol. Fenofibrate reduces thrombocyte aggregation, reduces high levels of fibrinogen in plasma, may slightly lower blood glucose in patients with diabetes, decreases the level of uric acid in the blood.

When is the drug prescribed?

Hyperlipoproteinemia IIa, IIb, III and IV types, not manageable by diet

In which cases you must be cautious or completely discontinue the drug?

• hypersensitivity to fenofibrate
• acute liver and kidney disease
• pregnancy, lactation (breastfeeding)
• pediatric use

Which undesirable side effects may be caused by the drug?

The Tricor adverse effects include:

Possible: diarrhea, activity increase of liver enzymes

Rare: myopathy, increased activity of CPK, allergic skin reactions

• hypoglycemic drugs
